In the words of the mayor, Susana Marqu\u00e9s: \u201cthis year\u2019s competition marks a 55-year journey, consolidating the contest\u2019s prestige and international nature, which can be seen in the interest shown each year by participants from around the world. This year, 12 different nationalities will be represented; this proves the importance of Europe\u2019s longest-standing guitar competition, and Benic\u00e0ssim is proud to be its home.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Interestingly, the youngest person to enter, Ausi\u00e0s Parejo (aged 16), is the only musician from the Valencian Community, and he is joined by fellow Spaniards \u00c1lvaro Toscano (C\u00f3rdoba) and Javier Garc\u00eda (Madrid). The remaining participants are from Chile, South Korea, Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Russia, Croatia, Israel and Japan. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\">The competition will be organised as follows: on 26 and 27 August, a shortlisting process will be carried out, with selected competitors playing a repertoire of their choice covering pieces in different styles that must include Francisco T\u00e1rrega\u2019s <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\"><i>\u201cRosita\u201d and \u201cLa Mariposa\u201d. <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\">On 29, 30 and 31 August, the Municipal Theatre will host the competition shows and the shortlisted musicians will perform works of their choice, which must include <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\"><i>\u201cRecuerdos de la Alhambra\u201d <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\">and any Francisco T\u00e1rrega piece they wish. The jury will then choose four competitors to go through to the final on 2 September. Guitarists who play at the shows but do not reach the final will take part in a concert on \u201cT\u00e1rrega Day\u201d (the Thursday before the final), where they will mainly perform shorter pieces by the maestro T\u00e1rrega against the unparalleled backdrop of the Villa Elisa municipal manor.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\"><b>Concert by the winner of the 2021 edition<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><a name=\"__DdeLink__1627_574731666\"><\/a> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"es-ES-u-co-trad\">The programme for this year\u2019s edition of the contest will include a very special concert: as the competition\u2019s director Jos\u00e9 Morales has revealed, the Ukrainian musician Marko Topchii will give an attractive concert-presentation of his record as the winner of the last edition of the competition.
