Between 24 and 26 June, this family event will place Sant Vicent Tower at the heart of shows, games and workshops

In 5 days’ time, Sant Vicent tower in Benicàssim will become the heart of “¡Tower Ahoy!”: a pirate-themed family event set against one of Castellón province’s 18 lookout towers, used between the 16th and 18th centuries for surveillance and defence against Berber pirate invasions.

Assisted by the regional Tourism Department, Benicàssim Town Council has programmed activities for all the family – such as shows, games and workshops – between 24 and 26 June. “The event will open our programme for all ages and is the perfect chance to bring history to life and show the cultural value of one of our most emblematic monuments: Sant Vicent Tower”, says the mayor, Susana Marqués.

The programme will begin on Friday, 24 June at 6 pm, and, as the Tourism councillor, Cristina Fernández, explains, “we have designed over 20 activities which are totally free and aim to let children experience a real pirate adventure”. A climbing wall, a zip wire, water activities, bridges, gangways and workshops will all be included in the programme taking place on 24 and 25 June between 6 pm and 10 pm. On Sunday, 26 June between 11 am and 12 pm, there will also be a 2 km non-competitive swimming race between Voramar beach and Sant Vicent Tower. “You can register for the race for free via the website www.turismo.benicassim.es, and the full Tower Ahoy! programme can be found in an “activity map” showing the different activities taking place against this emblematic natural backdrop”, Fernández adds.

At the same time, the Pepe Falomir amphitheatre will become the perfect spot for discovering the history of Sant Vicent Tower through travelling performances, and the event will give visitors access to this cultural heritage site. On these days, residents and tourists alike will be able to visit the Sant Vicent Tower Interpretation Centre between 10 am and 1 pm and 6 pm and 9 pm.
